OLD FORTRESSES OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Fortified castles of medieval Bosnia were created in the period from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century. Several towns were created earlier in the twelfth century in what is now a central Bosnia. They were the residence of the Bosnian rulers, like the Kraljeva Sutjeska, Bobovac and Visoko.
The fortified cities are fortification buildings that primarily served for defensive purposes, but in them was located the center of feudal rulers and nobles, and as such was represented the economic and cultural centers of certain areas. Therefore, the choice of raising fortifications was devoted a special attention. Selected places must be inaccessible from at least one side.
Today, several centuries after their creation with other cultural and historical monuments these fortresses testify to the millennium history of the state Bosnia and Herzegovina.
